About Invoice Ninja

Invoice Ninja is an invoicing and billing app for freelancers and small businesses that also covers quotes, recurring invoices, online payments through dozens of gateways, expenses, projects and time tracking, and a client portal. It is unusual in offering both a hosted service and a self-hosted version you run on your own server. The hosted Free plan allows a small number of clients, and paid Pro and Enterprise plans remove limits, add branding control and more users. The code is public, but it is source-available under the Elastic License rather than a standard open-source licence, so check the terms before building a business on it. It runs in the browser with desktop and mobile apps. Like other invoicing tools, it is not full accounting: there is no general ledger or bank reconciliation, so most users pair it with an accounting app or an accountant.

Best for: Freelancers and small firms that want flexible invoicing and the option to self-host.
