About Amp
Amp is a coding agent built by an independent lab that grew out of Sourcegraph. Rather than adding AI to an editor, it gives each agent its own isolated cloud workspace, called an orb, where it can run your dev environment, test changes and keep going after you close your laptop; you can follow along from the web, the CLI, or the iOS and Android apps, and share threads with teammates. It picks among frontier models for you and supports MCP, skills, AGENTS.md files and plugins. Amp is opinionated and moves fast, which its makers state openly, so features change often. Pricing starts with a free Hobby tier where you bring your own API keys or existing ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions and pay as you go for hosted orbs, with paid individual plans that include hosted minutes and team features such as SSO. You can also run orbs on your own machines. It suits developers who want to delegate work to always-on agents.
Best for: Developers who want long-running agents in cloud workspaces they can check from anywhere.
