About Apple Numbers
Numbers takes a different approach to spreadsheets. Instead of one endless grid, each sheet is a blank canvas where you place several tables, charts, text and images, which makes it good for budgets, trackers, invoices and reports that need to look presentable. It has hundreds of functions, categories for summarising tables, interactive charts, Apple Pencil support on iPad and iCloud collaboration, including a browser version for people on other computers. It exports to Excel, CSV and PDF. Numbers comes free on every new Mac, iPad and iPhone, and since 2026 an optional Apple Creator Studio subscription adds premium templates and AI helpers such as formula generation, while the base app stays free. It is not meant for heavy analysis: large datasets slow it down, there are no macros or pivot-style power tools on the level of Excel, and complex Excel workbooks often lose features when imported.
Best for: Apple users building budgets, trackers and good-looking reports.
