About Azure Front Door

Azure Front Door is Microsoft's cloud CDN combined with global load balancing and application security. It sits in front of websites and APIs, terminates TLS at Microsoft's edge locations, caches static content, and routes dynamic requests over Microsoft's private network to the fastest healthy backend, whether that backend is in Azure, another cloud or on premises. It comes in two current tiers. Standard focuses on content delivery, routing, custom domains and managed certificates. Premium adds the Azure Web Application Firewall with managed rule sets, bot protection, Private Link connections to origins and security analytics. An older Classic tier still exists for existing users. Pricing combines a fixed monthly base fee per profile with charges for outbound data transfer and requests by region, so it is aimed at business workloads more than hobby sites. Setup is done through the Azure portal, CLI or templates. It is the natural pick for organisations already standardised on Azure that want CDN, global failover and WAF from one service.

Best for: Organisations on Azure needing CDN, global load balancing and WAF from a single service.
