About Brave
Brave is an open-source browser built on Chromium with privacy turned on by default. Its Shields feature blocks ads, trackers, cross-site cookies and fingerprinting without extensions, including ads on video sites, which makes pages load faster and use less data. Because it is Chromium-based, it runs Chrome extensions and renders sites like Chrome. Extras include the Leo AI assistant, which is free with an optional premium tier, Brave Search as the default engine, a built-in Tor window, a crypto wallet, and an opt-in program that shows privacy-respecting ads in exchange for BAT tokens. Paid add-ons include a VPN and Leo Premium. Some users find the crypto and rewards features distracting, though they can be turned off. The browser is free and licensed under the MPL, and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It suits people who want Chrome compatibility with strong blocking out of the box.
Best for: People who want Chrome compatibility with ads and trackers blocked by default.
