About Helium
Helium is an open-source Chromium-based browser from imput, the team behind the cobalt media downloader. It builds on ungoogled-chromium to remove Google's background services, then adds what that project leaves out: automatic updates, uBlock Origin preinstalled, and support for all Chrome extensions, which it can fetch through an anonymising proxy. It aims to be fast and quiet, with no telemetry, no sponsored content and no AI features, plus useful touches like vertical tabs, split view and DuckDuckGo-style bangs in the address bar. Helium's own services are designed not to collect personal data. It is currently in beta, so bugs are expected, and there is no sync or mobile app. It is free and open source under the GPL, available for macOS, Windows and Linux. It suits people who want a clean Chromium browser that stays private by default without the extras of Brave.
Best for: People who want a clean, private Chromium browser without Brave's extras.
