About Vivaldi
Vivaldi is made by an independent Norwegian company founded by former Opera leaders, and it aims to give power users control over nearly everything. Tabs can be stacked, tiled side by side, placed vertically or hidden; toolbars, menus, shortcuts and mouse gestures can be rearranged; and themes can change on a schedule. It also bundles tools other browsers leave to extensions or separate apps: a mail client, calendar, feed reader, notes, a built-in ad and tracker blocker, a translator and a VPN in partnership with Proton. Sync is end-to-end encrypted. The company has said it will not build generative AI into the browser and does not track users for advertising. The sheer number of options can overwhelm newcomers, and the interface, built with web technology, can feel slower than Chrome. Vivaldi is free, with Chromium code open and its own interface code viewable but not under one open licence. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It suits power users who want one deeply configurable app.
Best for: Power users who want deep customisation and built-in mail, calendar and feeds.
