About Gemini Code Assist

Gemini Code Assist is Google's coding assistant for teams. In VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, Cloud Workstations and Cloud Shell Editor it offers code completion, whole-function generation, chat and an agent mode, in preview, that makes multi-file edits with you approving each step. Licences also cover the Gemini CLI for terminal work. The Enterprise edition adds code customisation from your private repositories and deeper ties to Google Cloud services. Google offers IP indemnification and source citations when suggestions quote existing code at length. Pricing is per user per month with monthly or annual commitments, in Standard and Enterprise editions bought through Google Cloud. Note that the free individual tier no longer exists in the same form: in June 2026 Google moved unpaid and Google One users of the Code Assist IDE extensions and Gemini CLI to its Antigravity tools, so Code Assist is now mainly a business product. It suits companies already on Google Cloud.

Best for: Companies on Google Cloud that want a managed, indemnified coding assistant.
