About gitg
gitg is the Git client from the GNOME project. It is designed to fit the GNOME desktop, with a clean header-bar interface for opening recent repositories, browsing history with a branch graph, viewing files at any commit, and a staging area where you select changes and compose a commit. It can also clone and add repositories and set your user details. The focus is on viewing history and making straightforward commits rather than advanced operations, so interactive rebase, conflict resolution and hosting-service integrations are not part of it. gitg is free software under the GNU GPL version 2 or later and is available through most Linux distributions and Flathub. Development is community-driven and slow-moving, and its old wiki page has been retired in favour of GNOME's GitLab. It suits GNOME users who want a native, uncluttered way to look through history and commit, with the terminal for anything complex.
Best for: GNOME desktop users who want a native, simple history viewer and committer.
