About Authenticator (GNOME)

Authenticator is a GTK app for generating two-factor codes on Linux, maintained by GNOME developer Bilal Elmoussaoui and listed among the Apps for GNOME. It supports time-based, counter-based and Steam codes with SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512, and accounts can be added by scanning a QR code with a webcam or from a screenshot. The app can be locked with a password, and it plugs into GNOME Shell search so you can find a code from the overview without opening the window. It can back up to and restore from formats used by other apps, including FreeOTP+, Aegis (encrypted or plain) and andOTP, and import Google Authenticator exports, which makes it handy for keeping a desktop copy of codes from an Android phone. It is free under GPL-3.0 or later and distributed through Flathub. It runs only on Linux, has no sync of its own and is best on GNOME desktops, though it works elsewhere through Flatpak.

Best for: Linux desktop users who want their 2FA codes in a native GNOME app.
