About Duo Mobile

Duo Mobile is the phone app for Cisco Duo, a multi-factor authentication and access service many universities and companies use. Its main job is Duo Push: when you sign in to a protected work app, a notification asks you to approve or deny, and newer prompts add verification codes to resist push fatigue attacks. Duo Mobile can also generate standard TOTP passcodes, and you can add personal third-party accounts such as Google or GitHub by scanning their QR codes, so one app covers work and personal 2FA. Duo Restore can back up accounts to iCloud or Google Drive for moving to a new phone, though work accounts usually need re-activation by your organisation. The app is free on iOS and Android, with an Apple Watch companion. The Duo service itself is sold to organisations per user per month, with a free edition for up to 10 users. As a personal-only authenticator it is less flexible than dedicated apps, with no desktop version or export.
