About Harness

Harness is a commercial software delivery platform aimed at platform engineering teams in larger companies. Its modules include continuous integration with build caching and test intelligence that runs only affected tests, continuous delivery with GitOps, canary and blue-green deployments and automatic verification, feature flags, cloud cost management, chaos engineering via LitmusChaos, infrastructure as code management, security testing orchestration and an internal developer portal. Harness bought Drone CI in 2020, and its open-source offering, Harness Open Source, combines source control, CI/CD pipelines, hosted dev environments and an artifact registry under the Apache 2.0 licence. The breadth lets organisations standardise on one vendor, but the product is complex and most paid pricing goes through sales. There is a free plan for individuals and small teams, an Essentials bundle and modular Enterprise plans. It is a hosted service with self-managed options.

Best for: Platform teams in larger companies standardising CI, CD and release controls on one vendor.
