About Hunter Vault

Hunter Vault is a budget and expense tracker for iPhone and Android that turns money habits into an RPG-style game, borrowing heavily from anime such as Solo Leveling. Logging expenses, finishing daily and weekly quests, paying debts and completing savings goals earn XP and Gold, which move you up ranks from E to S. Under the game terms (budgets are "mana", debts are "dungeon raids", savings goals are "crystal goals") sit standard tools: category budgets with 50/30/20 guidance and a pace marker, a Safe to Spend figure that sets aside bills, debt minimums and goals, bill tracking, recurring transactions, reports and multi-currency support. The debt planner shows a debt-free date and compares snowball and avalanche payoff. The app is offline-first: no account, no bank connection and no ads, and data stays on the phone unless you turn on an online feature. Those are optional: cloud sync and a Shared Vault for up to six people are separate subscriptions, and the Hunter Pass subscription includes monthly Hunter Credits for the Huntee AI coach and Smart Import, which reads screenshots and PDF statements (CSV import runs on the device and is free). An opt-in weekly leaderboard ranks habit points, never amounts. Core budgeting is free, and a one-time $15.99 upgrade removes the free limits. The trade-off is that nothing syncs from your bank, so every transaction is typed in or imported, and the game framing will appeal to some people more than others.

Best for: People who like games and want a private, offline budget without linking a bank account.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Core budgeting is free, with a one-time upgrade instead of a subscription
  • No account, no bank login and no ads; works fully offline
  • Quests, XP and ranks reward logging and debt payments
  • Safe to Spend, bills, debt payoff and savings goals in one app
  • Leaderboard is opt-in and never shows amounts

Why people leave

  • No bank sync: every transaction is entered or imported by hand
  • The anime and RPG framing won't suit everyone
  • AI coach, statement import and cloud backup are extra subscriptions
  • Phone only; there's no web or desktop version
