About Monarch Money
Monarch Money is a subscription personal finance app that links your bank, card, loan and investment accounts and pulls everything into one view: transactions, budgets, recurring bills, net worth, cash flow and goals. It connects through several data providers to more than 13,000 institutions, categorizes transactions automatically, detects subscriptions, and lets you mark transactions as reviewed. Budgets can be set by category or by group, and goals tie savings targets to your cash flow. Collaboration is a large part of the pitch: you can invite a partner, or a financial professional, at no extra cost, and transactions can be flagged for a household member to review. The app runs on the web, iOS and Android. Monarch grew quickly after Mint shut down in 2024, and it still positions itself as a home for former Mint users. There's no free tier; after a seven-day trial the plan costs $99.99 a year or $14.99 a month, and a higher Plus tier adds forecasting, multiple income sources and deeper investment tools. It suits couples and people who want an automatic overview of their whole financial life. The trade-off is that it depends on bank connections, which can break and need relinking, and its flexible budgeting is looser than a zero-based method, so it shows where money went more than it forces a plan.
Best for: Couples and households who want every account, budget and goal in one shared, automatic view.
