About Rocket Money
Rocket Money is a personal finance app best known for finding and cancelling subscriptions. After you link your accounts, it lists recurring charges in one place, tracks upcoming bills, categorizes spending and shows net income, and on paid plans it adds budgets, credit reports, net worth and automated savings. It started as Truebill, which Rocket Companies (the mortgage lender behind Rocket Mortgage) bought in late 2021 and renamed Rocket Money in 2022. There are three tiers. The free tier covers subscription tracking, bill tracking, spending categories and up to two custom category budgets. Premium adds hands-off cancellation, where Rocket Money contacts a provider for you, unlimited budgets and categories, savings goals that move money into an FDIC-insured account, full credit reports and account sharing. Premium+ adds Rowan, an AI assistant. Separately, Rocket Money will negotiate cable, phone and insurance bills for a success-based fee, charged only if it lowers the bill. The app is on iPhone, Android and the web. It suits people who mainly want to stop paying for forgotten subscriptions and get a quick picture of their spending. The trade-off is that budgeting is lighter than in dedicated apps, the free tier is narrow, the negotiation fee can be a sizable share of the savings, and the app sits within a lender's group of products.
Best for: People who want to find and cancel forgotten subscriptions and get a quick view of spending.
