About Kong Mesh
Kong Mesh is the commercial service mesh from Kong, the company behind Kong Gateway. It's built on the open-source Kuma project and uses Envoy as its data-plane proxy. The main draw is reach: the same mesh runs on Kubernetes and in what Kong calls Universal mode on VMs and bare metal, and a multi-zone setup connects several clusters, data centres and clouds under one global control plane. Out of the box it provides mutual TLS, service discovery, traffic routing and retries, observability and policies for access control, and several separate meshes can be run from one control plane for multi-tenant setups. You can run the control plane yourself or let Kong host the global control plane through its Konnect SaaS platform. On top of Kuma, Kong adds enterprise features such as role-based access control, FIPS-compliant builds and commercial support. Pricing is by quote. It suits organisations with a mix of Kubernetes and legacy VM workloads, especially those already using Kong's API gateway.
Best for: Enterprises running services across Kubernetes and VMs that want one supported mesh.
