About Medusa

Medusa is an open-source commerce framework written in TypeScript on Node.js. It gives developers modules for products, carts, orders, pricing, inventory, promotions and more, plus an admin dashboard and a Next.js storefront starter, and lets you replace or extend any module with custom code. Teams use it for D2C stores, B2B portals and marketplaces that would be awkward on Shopify. You can self-host it for free, or use Medusa Cloud, which charges for infrastructure rather than a share of sales. Medusa is a developer tool: there is no theme marketplace or point-and-click setup, and you are responsible for the storefront and integrations. The ecosystem is younger than Magento's or WooCommerce's, though it is growing quickly. It runs on your own servers or Medusa Cloud.

Best for: JavaScript teams building custom commerce, B2B or marketplace backends.
