About Motilal Oswal

Motilal Oswal is one of India's older full-service brokers, trading since 1987. Through its website and mobile apps you can buy and sell Indian stocks, futures and options, commodities, IPOs, mutual funds, bonds and fixed deposits, and it also offers US stocks, portfolio management services and alternative investment funds. Where discount brokers compete on low flat fees, Motilal Oswal sells its research: daily intraday, options and long-term recommendations built on its in-house QGLP stock-picking approach, plus access to personal advisors and a large branch network. Account opening is free and the first year of maintenance charges is waived, but brokerage on trades is generally higher than at discount apps, and the plan you choose shapes what you pay. It suits investors in India who want ideas and human help along with a trading account, rather than a bare-bones execution platform. The apps run on Android and iOS, with a web platform for desktop use.

Best for: Indian investors who want research calls and a personal advisor alongside their trading account.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Daily research recommendations for intraday, options and long-term picks
  • Wide product range, from stocks and F&O to PMS, bonds and US stocks
  • Large branch and advisor network for in-person help
  • Free account opening

Why people leave

  • Brokerage is usually higher than at discount brokers like Zerodha or Groww
  • Research-led selling and advisor calls won't suit purely self-directed traders
  • Pricing depends on the plan and is harder to compare than a flat fee
