About MPC-BE
MPC-BE (Media Player Classic Black Edition) is a free Windows player derived from the original Media Player Classic and MPC-HC. It keeps the light footprint and broad format support of its predecessor but adds a darker, more modern interface, seek-bar thumbnail previews, built-in support for online subtitles and streams, and its own video renderer options. It plays DVDs, Blu-ray folders, common video and audio formats and network streams, and it can be extended with external filters or paired with madVR for high-quality output. Development is active, with frequent releases from a small team. It is open source under the GPL, contains no ads, and runs only on Windows. It suits Windows users who like the MPC approach but want a slightly friendlier and more featured player than MPC-HC.
Best for: Windows users who want MPC's lightness with a more modern interface and extras.
