About SMPlayer
SMPlayer is a graphical front end for the MPlayer and mpv engines, giving them a conventional player interface with menus, a playlist and preference screens. Because those engines ship built-in codecs, it plays virtually every audio and video format without installing codec packs. Its signature feature is that it remembers the settings of every file you play, so a film resumes where you stopped with the same audio track, subtitles and volume. It can also play YouTube videos, search and download subtitles, cast to Chromecast and apply audio and video filters, and it comes with several skins and icon themes. SMPlayer is free and open source under the GPL, with no ads, and runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. It suits people who want mpv-level format support with a more familiar interface.
Best for: People who want an easy, free player that resumes each file with its own settings.
