About NeoOffice

NeoOffice was an office suite for the Mac built on the code of OpenOffice and, later, LibreOffice. Two engineers started it in 2003 when they got OpenOffice running natively on Mac OS X for the first time, and for nearly 20 years it added Mac-specific touches that the upstream suites lacked: native tabs and full-screen mode, macOS grammar checking and text highlighting, Mac Services support, version browsing, and file locking for documents kept in iCloud Drive, Dropbox or on network drives. It included a word processor, spreadsheet and presentation app compatible with OpenDocument and Microsoft Office files. The project is no longer active. Its website now points users to LibreOffice as a replacement, while source code and old downloads remain on GitHub, where the repository is archived. Anyone still using NeoOffice should move to a maintained suite to get security fixes and support for current macOS releases; LibreOffice is the closest match in features and file formats.

Best for: Nobody new; existing users should migrate to LibreOffice or another maintained suite.
