About Newsboat

Newsboat is an RSS and Atom feed reader for text terminals, maintained as an active fork of the older Newsbeuter. Feeds are listed in a plain-text file, and everything is controlled from the keyboard, with configurable key bindings, colours and macros. It supports filters and query feeds that collect matching articles, tags, podcasts through its companion podboat, and piping articles to external programs such as browsers or read-later tools. It can also sync with services like Miniflux, FreshRSS, Feedbin, Inoreader, NewsBlur and Tiny Tiny RSS. Releases come out regularly with signed source tarballs, and it is available in most Linux and BSD package managers and on macOS through Homebrew. It is free, MIT-licensed and very light on resources, which makes it popular on servers and minimalist desktops. The trade-off is obvious: there are no images or graphical layout, and setup means editing text configuration files.

Best for: Terminal users who want a fast, scriptable reader configured with text files.
