About Liferea
Liferea, short for Linux Feed Reader, is a long-standing open-source news aggregator for the GNOME and GTK desktop. Its layout resembles a desktop mail client, with feeds in a tree, a headline list and an embedded browser for reading. It can read articles offline, force-fetch full article text with HTML5 extraction, and even subscribe to websites that have no feed. Headlines can be saved permanently in news bins, search folders collect matching items automatically, and podcasts play inside the app. Liferea syncs with services that use the Google Reader API, including The Old Reader, FreshRSS and Miniflux, as well as Tiny Tiny RSS, and it supports plug-ins and DBUS control. It is free software available from most Linux distributions' package managers. It is Linux-focused, with no Windows, macOS or mobile versions, and the interface follows a traditional desktop style.
Best for: Linux desktop users who want a mature, free reader that works offline.
