About Oracle SQL Developer
Oracle SQL Developer is Oracle's free integrated development environment for working with Oracle Database. It lets you browse database objects, run SQL statements and scripts, edit and debug PL/SQL, manipulate and export data, and view and build reports. It can also connect to selected third-party databases to view their metadata and data and migrate them into Oracle. It integrates related Oracle technologies, including Data Miner, OLAP, TimesTen and a read-only view of SQL Developer Data Modeler, and it sits alongside SQLcl, Oracle's modern command line, and a SQL Developer extension for VS Code. The desktop app is Java-based and runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. It is free to download and use. It is the default choice for Oracle work at no cost, though it is heavy, its interface feels dated beside newer tools, and support for non-Oracle databases is limited to viewing and migration.
Best for: Developers and DBAs working with Oracle Database who want a free official IDE.
