About Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler

Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler is a standalone data modelling and database design tool from Oracle, a companion to SQL Developer. You build logical entity-relationship models, turn them into relational models for a chosen database, and generate DDL scripts, or go the other way by reverse-engineering an existing database's data dictionary and keeping model and database in sync. It also covers multidimensional models for data warehouses, data flow diagrams, design rules, naming standards and reports, and has built-in Subversion support so teams can version designs. Although it's tuned for Oracle Database, it can generate DDL for other systems such as Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2. Oracle offers it at no cost; you download a zip and run it on Windows, macOS or Linux, with a Java runtime required. The Swing-based interface feels dated and heavy, and outside Oracle shops it has far less community help than general-purpose tools.

Best for: Oracle database teams who need free, full-featured ER modelling and DDL generation.
