About pgAdmin

pgAdmin is the most widely used administration tool for PostgreSQL, maintained by the pgAdmin Development Team within the PostgreSQL community. Version 4 is a complete rewrite in Python and React. It covers almost every PostgreSQL object, with dialogs for creating and altering tables, indexes, functions, roles and permissions, a query tool with explain plan visualisation, an ERD tool, schema diff, backup and restore through pg_dump, server activity dashboards and a PL/pgSQL debugger. It runs as a standalone desktop app via an Electron runtime on Windows, macOS and Linux, or in server mode as a web application that several users share, including from an official container image. It is free and released under the PostgreSQL licence. pgAdmin's breadth comes with a busy interface that can feel slow and form-heavy for simple browsing, so many developers keep a lighter client for daily queries and reach for pgAdmin for administration.

Best for: PostgreSQL users and DBAs who need full administration features at no cost.
