About Send
Send is the community fork of Mozilla's Firefox Send, maintained by Tim Visée after Mozilla shut the original service down in 2020. Files are encrypted in the sender's browser before upload, and the decryption key travels only in the link's fragment, so the server never sees file contents. Links expire after a chosen number of downloads or amount of time, and can be password protected. You can run your own instance with Docker, and several public instances run the code for anyone to use. There is also a separate command-line client, ffsend, from the same maintainer. The code is licensed under the MPL-2.0 and mirrored on GitHub from GitLab. Because it is maintained by volunteers, development is steady rather than fast, and public instances set their own size and retention limits. It suits privacy-minded self-hosters who liked Firefox Send and want the same model on their own server.
Best for: Privacy-minded self-hosters who want Firefox Send's encrypted, expiring links.
