About Gokapi

Gokapi is a small open-source server for sharing files through links that expire after a set number of downloads or days. It was written as a self-hosted replacement for Mozilla's discontinued Firefox Send, with one deliberate difference: only authenticated users can upload, so you don't end up running an anonymous file host for strangers. Uploaders get an admin page for managing files and links, while recipients just open the link. Features include file requests that let outside people upload to you, optional end-to-end encryption so even a compromised server can't read file contents, deduplication of identical files, password protection, an API with per-key permissions, and storage either on local disk or in AWS S3-compatible buckets. It is written in Go, distributed as a single binary or Docker image, and licensed under the AGPL-3.0. You need your own server, domain and HTTPS setup, so it suits self-hosters and small organisations rather than casual users.

Best for: Self-hosters who want WeTransfer-style expiring links on their own server.
