About Tor Browser
Tor Browser is a modified Firefox, made by the Tor Project, a US non-profit, that sends your traffic through three relays on the volunteer-run Tor network so websites cannot see your IP address and your network provider cannot see which sites you visit. It is also the main way to reach .onion sites. On top of the network, it isolates each site so trackers cannot follow you between them, clears cookies and history when you close it, and makes every user look as alike as possible to defeat fingerprinting. Bridges and pluggable transports help people connect from countries that block Tor. The trade-offs are speed, which is noticeably slower than a normal connection, frequent CAPTCHAs and blocks from some websites, and the need to avoid logging into personal accounts if you want to stay anonymous. It is free and open source, and runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. It suits journalists, activists, people under censorship and anyone who needs strong anonymity.
Best for: Anyone who needs strong anonymity or to get around censorship.
