About Vorta
Vorta is a desktop backup client that wraps BorgBackup, the command-line tool known for encrypted, deduplicated and compressed backups, in a point-and-click interface. You create profiles that group source folders, a destination and a schedule, and Vorta runs Borg for you in the background. Destinations can be a local or USB drive, your own server over SSH, or BorgBase, a hosted Borg storage service run by the same people who maintain Vorta. Because the data is stored in standard Borg repositories, there's no lock-in: you can still reach the archives with the Borg command line or another Borg front-end. Vorta lists all point-in-time archives in one place, lets you mount or restore individual files, and handles pruning of old archives. It's free and open source under the GPL and runs on macOS and most Linux distributions. Windows isn't properly supported because Borg itself isn't, and it backs up files rather than producing full system images.
Best for: Mac and Linux users who want BorgBackup's encrypted, deduplicated backups without the command line.
