About Kopia
Kopia is an open-source backup tool that takes snapshots of folders and stores them encrypted, compressed and deduplicated in a repository on storage you choose, including S3-compatible services, Backblaze B2, Google Cloud Storage, Azure, SFTP, WebDAV, rclone remotes or a local disk. It offers both a command-line tool and KopiaUI, a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, which makes it more approachable than restic for people who prefer a graphical interface. Policies control retention, compression and scheduling per folder, and a repository server mode lets several machines back up to one shared repository. Kopia is free and maintained by volunteers. It is younger than restic or Borg, so some users are cautious about trusting it with critical data, and documentation is thinner in places. Performance on large data sets is a strong point.
Best for: Technical users wanting fast, encrypted backups with an optional GUI.
