About Arq Backup

Arq is a backup app for Mac and Windows that stores encrypted, deduplicated, versioned backups wherever you want: an external drive, a NAS over SFTP, or your own account at providers such as Amazon S3, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox. Because you bring the storage, you control cost and retention, and Arq cannot read your data thanks to end-to-end encryption. It handles scheduling, retention rules, budget enforcement, APFS snapshots on macOS and restores of individual files or whole folders. You can buy Arq outright per computer, or subscribe to Arq Premium, which bundles storage on Arq's own cloud and covers several computers. A free trial is available. It suits people who want CrashPlan-style reliability with full control; it is less hands-off than Backblaze and needs some understanding of storage options.

Best for: Mac and Windows users who want encrypted backups to their own storage.
