About Box

Box started as a Dropbox rival and turned into a content platform for companies. Beyond storing and syncing files it offers granular permissions, retention and legal-hold policies, data loss prevention, e-signatures, no-code workflow automation and AI agents that can search and summarise documents. It integrates with a long list of business tools, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack and Salesforce, and is common in regulated industries because of its compliance certifications and admin controls. Individuals can sign up for a free personal account, but per-file upload limits are tight and the product is clearly built for teams, which pay per user per month with minimum seat counts. It runs in the browser, with Box Drive for Windows and macOS and mobile apps for iOS and Android. For a single person who just wants a big synced folder, it is more tool and more cost than needed.

Best for: Companies that need governed file sharing, compliance and workflows.
