About Checkmk
Checkmk is a monitoring platform from the German company Checkmk GmbH that grew out of the Nagios ecosystem. Its agent and large library of check plugins automatically discover services on servers, network devices, storage, databases, cloud accounts and Kubernetes, so a new host is usually monitored in minutes with sensible thresholds already set. Configuration is done through a web interface with rules rather than text files, and it scales to very large environments with distributed sites. It is popular with IT departments managing mixed on-premises and cloud estates. The free Community edition is GPL-licensed open source and suits small infrastructures; commercial editions add features like agent bakery, dashboards and reporting at scale, and Checkmk Cloud offers it as SaaS. Pricing for paid editions is by number of services monitored, with a free trial. The server runs on Linux, with agents for Linux, Windows and other systems.
Best for: IT teams with mixed server, network and cloud estates who want fast automatic setup.
