About OpenObserve
OpenObserve is an open-source observability platform written in Rust that aims to replace Elasticsearch-based log stacks and pieces of Datadog at a fraction of the cost. It ingests logs, metrics and traces through OpenTelemetry and common log shippers, accepts Elasticsearch-compatible APIs, and stores data in compressed columnar files on object storage like S3, which is where most of the claimed storage savings come from. On top you get SQL and PromQL queries, dashboards, alerts, pipelines for transforming data, real user monitoring and session replay for front ends, and error tracking. A single binary is enough for small deployments, with a distributed mode for scale. The project is AGPL-licensed and free to self-host; an enterprise edition adds features like SSO, and OpenObserve Cloud is a managed pay-as-you-go service billed by GB ingested and queried, with a free trial. It runs on Linux, macOS, Windows and Kubernetes.
Best for: Teams replacing an expensive ELK or Datadog log setup with cheap object storage.
