About Chromium
Chromium is the open-source project run by Google that provides the code base for Chrome and for most other browsers, including Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Arc. Using Chromium directly gives you a browser close to Chrome but without some Google-specific components, such as automatic updates, certain media codecs and built-in Google account features on some builds. Google publishes raw snapshot builds for testing, which do not auto-update and come from arbitrary revisions, so most people who use Chromium day to day install it from their Linux distribution's package manager or a trusted third-party build. That also makes it a common choice on Linux and for developers testing web compatibility. It supports Chrome extensions, though installing from the Chrome Web Store may need extra steps on some builds. It is free and open source under a BSD-style licence, and builds exist for Windows, macOS and Linux. It suits Linux users and developers who want an unbranded Chrome.
Best for: Linux users and developers who want an unbranded, open-source Chrome.
