About GitUp

GitUp is a free, open-source Git client for macOS that takes a different approach from most GUIs. Its main view is a live map of the repository's branches and commits that updates instantly, even when changes are made outside the app. Every operation can be undone with Cmd+Z, and a snapshots feature keeps a Time Machine-like history of the repository's state so you can step back to any earlier point. It talks to the repository database directly through its own GitUpKit framework instead of calling the Git binary, which makes it very fast: the official Git repository's tens of thousands of commits render in under a second. Rewriting, splitting, reordering and squashing commits are all available from the map. It is licensed under the GPL-3.0 and needs a recent version of macOS. The interface is idiosyncratic and some routine features, such as pull-request integration, are missing, so it works best alongside the command line.

Best for: Mac users who want a free, fast visual map of history with safe undo.
