About Manus

Manus is an AI agent rather than a plain chatbot: you describe a goal and it plans the steps, then works through them in a sandboxed virtual computer with internet access, a file system and the ability to install software. Typical jobs are research reports, slide decks, websites and small web apps, data analysis, images and video, with connectors to tools such as Gmail, Notion and Slack. Desktop apps for macOS and Windows can also work with your local files and, through a computer-use mode, operate apps on your machine; there are mobile apps and a web version too. Pricing is credit-based: a free plan with a limited monthly allowance, paid individual plans with more credits, and a team plan with a shared pool. Long or complex tasks can use credits quickly. Manus announced that it is joining Meta and said it will keep selling and running its subscription service.

Best for: People who want an AI to complete whole tasks such as reports, slides or sites, not just answer.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Runs multi-step tasks end to end in its own sandboxed computer
  • Produces finished files: slides, sites, reports and media
  • Desktop app can work with local files and apps
  • Apps on web, desktop and mobile

Why people leave

  • Credit-based billing makes costs hard to predict on long tasks
  • Free plan's monthly credits run out fast
  • Now owned by Meta, which may concern privacy-minded users
