About ModernMT
ModernMT is a machine translation service from Translated, the Italian language company behind MyMemory and Matecat. Its main idea was adaptive translation: the engine learns from a customer's translation memories and glossaries as they work, so suggestions pick up their terminology and style without training a custom model. Professional translators mostly used it through plugins for Trados Studio and memoQ, while developers called it through an API with SDKs for several languages. It covered 200+ languages but only translated text; it had no document, image or audio translation. Translated is now retiring it in favour of Lara, its LLM-based successor: new sign-ups on modernmt.com are closed, existing API keys keep working until 31 December 2026, and the company offers to move translation memories and glossaries across. Anyone still on ModernMT should plan a move, either to Lara or to another MT engine such as DeepL or a TMS with built-in machine translation.
