OrangeHRM is one of the longest-running open-source HR systems. The free Starter edition, which you download and host yourself, covers employee information, leave, time and attendance, recruitment, performance, a directory and basic reporting, and it has an active community forum. OrangeHRM Advanced is the paid, hosted edition with extra modules such as onboarding, training, expenses, more reporting and mobile apps, and it comes with a 30-day free trial; the company also offers an API and an app builder. Pricing for Advanced is quote-based. The Starter edition runs on a standard PHP and MySQL stack on Linux or other servers. It suits organisations with technical staff that want a free HRIS under their own control, but the open-source edition's interface and features lag behind commercial tools, support is community-only, and there is no payroll in the free version.
