About Safari

Safari is the default browser on Apple devices and runs on Apple's WebKit engine. On iPhone and iPad it is also the engine underneath most other browsers outside the EU. Its main strengths are efficiency and integration: it is tuned for long battery life on Macs, syncs tabs, bookmarks and passwords through iCloud, works with the Passwords app and passkeys, and supports Handoff between devices. Privacy features include Intelligent Tracking Prevention, which limits cross-site tracking, fingerprinting defences, and hiding your IP address from known trackers, with iCloud Private Relay for paying iCloud+ users. It supports web extensions, though the catalogue is much smaller than Chrome's and many extensions are paid. Developer tools are good but some web features arrive later than in Chromium. It is free and only available on macOS, iOS, iPadOS and visionOS. It suits Apple users who want a fast, private, efficient browser and do not need cross-platform sync.

Best for: Apple users who value battery life, privacy and tight iCloud integration.
