About Skrooge

Skrooge is a personal finance manager from the KDE community. You enter or import transactions, sort them into categories with unlimited levels, and get graphical reports, a dashboard and budget tracking. It imports from many other tools and formats, including QIF, CSV, OFX, QFX, Microsoft Money, GnuCash, KMyMoney, HomeBank and Money Manager Ex, which makes it a practical landing spot when leaving another finance app. Other features include scheduled transactions, multiple currencies, mass editing, rules that process transactions automatically, and undo that survives closing the file. It is free and open source under the GPL, with no account, cloud or subscription; data stays in a local file. It runs mainly on Linux, with macOS and Windows builds available. Pulling transactions straight from a bank depends on the separate woob tool, and there is no mobile app, so it suits people happy to manage money at a desktop rather than those wanting phone-first syncing.

Best for: Linux and KDE users who want a free, local finance tracker with strong import options.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Imports from many formats and other finance apps
  • Free and open source, with data kept in a local file
  • Unlimited category levels, budgets and graphical reports
  • Undo history that persists after closing the file

Why people leave

  • Direct bank import relies on the third-party woob tool and doesn't cover every bank
  • No mobile app
  • Windows and macOS builds are less polished than the Linux version
