About Step Two
Step Two is a two-step verification app for Apple devices made by independent developer Neil Sardesai. It focuses on design and simplicity: you scan a QR code, and codes appear in a tidy list that is easy to read and search. Codes are backed up and synced across iPhone, iPad and Mac through iCloud, so a new device picks them up automatically, and a Safari extension can suggest the right account and fill codes on websites. It supports time-based one-time passwords, which covers most services, but not counter-based HOTP codes. The app is free to download with a limited free version and a one-time in-app purchase to unlock the full app, and the Mac version is also available through Setapp. It runs only on Apple platforms, so it is not an option if you also use Android or Windows, and because sync relies on iCloud, your codes are only as portable as your Apple account. Power users may miss features like groups or advanced export.
Best for: Apple users who want a well-designed authenticator synced through iCloud.
