About WeKan
WeKan is a free and open-source Kanban board that looks and works much like Trello. Boards hold lists and cards with labels, members, checklists, due dates, attachments and comments, and there are swimlanes, custom fields, rules for automation and templates. Imports from Trello and other tools help teams move over. It is built with the Meteor JavaScript framework and is usually deployed with Docker, Snap or Sandstorm, on servers you control, which appeals to privacy-conscious organisations, schools and public bodies; the project states it has no telemetry. The code is MIT-licensed and maintained largely by one lead developer, who offers paid commercial support and feature development. The interface is functional but less polished and slower than hosted competitors, and documentation can be scattered across GitHub and the website. It runs in the browser, and the board layout works on phones.
Best for: Organisations that want a free Trello-like board on their own servers.
