About WHOOP

WHOOP is a screenless wrist band paired with a phone app, sold as a membership rather than a one-off gadget: the hardware is included and you pay for the service. It measures heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature and movement around the clock and turns them into three daily numbers: Sleep, Recovery and Strain. The idea is to tell you how hard to train today and how much sleep you need, which is why it is popular with athletes and people who lift, run or cycle seriously. The app adds sleep coaching, a journal for linking habits to recovery, and an AI coach; higher membership tiers add more health features. There is no display, so you check everything on the phone. New members can try it free for a month, and developers can pull data through an official API. It works with iOS and Android.

Best for: Athletes and regular trainers who want daily recovery and strain scores to plan workouts.
