About Oura

Oura makes a smart ring that you wear day and night to track sleep, heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, activity and stress, all shown in the Oura app on iOS or Android. Each day it gives Sleep, Readiness and Activity scores, and over time it adds longer-term views such as cardiovascular age, stress resilience and cycle and ovulation insights. A ring is a less obvious wearable than a watch, which is a big part of its appeal for sleep tracking. You buy the ring outright, and most of the insights need the Oura Membership, a monthly or yearly subscription that also includes an AI health assistant. Without it the ring still works, but the data you see is limited. New members get the first month free, and the membership is HSA/FSA eligible in the US. Your data can be exported as CSV even if you stop paying.

Best for: People who want detailed sleep and recovery tracking without wearing a watch.

Pros and cons

What works

  • Comfortable for sleep tracking compared with a wrist device
  • Tracks more than 50 health metrics with daily scores
  • Data export to CSV even without a membership

Why people leave

  • Most insights need an ongoing membership on top of the ring price
  • No screen and no built-in GPS for workouts
  • Ring sizing has to be right before you buy
