About XWiki

XWiki is an open-source wiki platform developed since the mid-2000s by the French company XWiki SAS and a community of contributors. Beyond ordinary pages it supports structured data, so teams can build forms, lists and small applications inside the wiki, which is why it is often used for intranets, documentation portals and knowledge bases in larger organisations and public bodies. The company sells XWiki Pro, a package of paid apps and integrations such as Confluence-compatible macros, Microsoft 365 and OpenProject connectors and analytics, along with cloud hosting and support contracts. A Confluence migration toolkit is a major focus, positioning XWiki as a European, open-source alternative to Atlassian. The core software is free to self-host, and open-source projects can get free hosting. The interface is more traditional than SaaS newcomers and configuration takes some learning, but it is very extensible. It runs in the browser on your own servers or on XWiki's cloud.

Best for: Organisations wanting an open-source, European Confluence replacement with paid support available.
