About Confluence

Confluence is Atlassian's wiki and documentation tool, organised into spaces that hold trees of pages. Teams use it for product specs, meeting notes, runbooks, HR policies and anything else that needs a shared home. Templates cover common page types, and recent versions add whiteboards, databases, embedded Loom videos and Atlassian's Rovo AI for search, summaries and drafting. Its biggest draw is the Jira connection: issues, roadmaps and sprint reports can be embedded and linked both ways, so engineering-heavy companies often treat the pair as a default. The Marketplace adds thousands of apps for diagrams, approvals and macros. The downsides are a sometimes slow, cluttered editor, search that struggles in large instances, and permissions that need careful planning. Pricing is per user per month with a free tier for small teams and Standard, Premium and Enterprise plans above it. Atlassian is moving customers to its cloud, and the self-managed Data Center edition has an announced end of support. It runs in the browser with mobile apps.

Best for: Companies already on Jira that want a structured, permissioned wiki next to their issue tracker.
