About Appcues

Appcues lets product, marketing and customer success teams publish in-app experiences such as onboarding tours, modals, checklists, tooltips, surveys and feature announcements without waiting on developers. Experiences are built in a no-code workspace, targeted at user segments, and measured with built-in analytics, and newer AI features can draft and launch campaigns from a prompt. It is one of the longer-running tools in the category and is often compared with Pendo and Userpilot. Pricing is based on monthly active users, the number of installations and how many experiences are published at once; every tier includes all experience types and integrations, so the difference between plans is volume, reporting history and support. A free trial is available after a call with sales, and a startup programme serves smaller teams. Appcues runs as a hosted web service installed into your product.

Best for: SaaS teams that want no-code onboarding tours and announcements with all features on every plan.

Pros and cons

What works

  • All experience types and integrations included on every plan
  • Dormant users are not counted toward the MAU bill
  • Migration help when moving from another onboarding tool
  • Startup programme for small teams

Why people leave

  • No public prices; quotes come from sales
  • Entry plan limits you to 10 published experiences
  • Lighter product analytics than Pendo or Userpilot
