About AWS Elastic Beanstalk

Elastic Beanstalk is AWS's managed way to deploy web applications without wiring up every piece of infrastructure yourself. You upload source code, a Dockerfile or a container image, and Beanstalk provisions EC2 instances, load balancers, auto scaling groups and monitoring, then manages deployments, platform updates and health checks. It supports Java, .NET, PHP, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Go and Docker. Unlike black-box platforms, the underlying resources live in your AWS account where you can inspect and adjust them, which suits teams that want an easy start but full AWS access later. There is no extra charge for Beanstalk itself; you pay for the EC2, load balancer and other resources it creates. The experience feels dated next to newer platforms: no preview environments per pull request, a console tied to AWS concepts, and slower deploys. With AWS closing App Runner to new customers in 2026, Beanstalk and ECS remain its main managed options for long-running apps.

Best for: Teams on AWS who want managed deployment while keeping access to the underlying resources.
